Health Tips and Exercises

with Becky Behling

Range of motion exercises can help relieve pain, maintain normal body alignment, and help promote bone formation. Group exercise helps promote mental health and is more fun than exercising alone.

One should never do any movement that aggravates or over-extends any joint. If pain is felt, that is the body's signal to stop what you are doing! Always listen to your body!

All of the joints should be warmed up by using them from head to toe. After all joints are warmed up, more active movements will help to raise your heart rate.

Start your warm up at the head and neck with slow rotations around and up and down. Include eye movements such as the four points on a clock. Hands, fingers, wrists, elbows, and shoulders next. Follow with abdominal muscles, hips, knees, ankles, feet, and toes. Use of balls, bands, and weights may help with more strenuous movements to increase strength.

Find ways to encourage laughter and always be positive about our bodies and appreciate how we are able to move our body and to not be negative about what we cannot do. A thankful attitude is important to a successful exercise.
